Activity and rest.
Yogic relaxation relieves fatigue, stress and anxiety.
Every day dawns and with the sun that rises to the horizon life is renewed, the plants are nourished by the light, the animals run through the fields in search of food, the birds dance in the air under cover of heights. The entire universe comes alive.
With every dusk and sunset, all life hides and recovers its energy in the shadow of the moon's nectar rays. Thus passes the cycle of activity and rest, so necessary for the precious balance of vital rhythms in all species.
Yogis understand this dance of activity and rest as Prana Shakti. It is the Life Energy that interpenetrates the Universe and that is responsible for the creation and maintenance of the worlds, at macrocosmic and microcosmic levels.
The human being is no stranger to these alternating rhythms. In our work as people we share in communities, they vibrate in a balance that we can often describe as active or inactive as disparate or excessive.
Thus the light animates, energizes, vitalizes and the darkness calms, calms and rests. These alternate rhythms are also expressed in our breathing. Thus the inhalation is solar, clear, active, strong and energetic and the exhalation is lunar, dark, passive, soft and calm.
In yoga the term relaxation is familiar to us. From this perspective of health, relaxation is generally associated with reducing the physical tensions that bring rest and muscle contractions. Accompanied by the benefits of good physical relaxation, this state of rest is complemented by a deep release of tension at the psychic level.
Now allow yourself a few minutes just to be with yourself. Position yourself in a supine position, lying on your back on a mat or blanket that covers the length of your body. Close your eyes and focus your attention on the breath. Observe your nostrils and feel the breath that goes in with each inhalation and leaves with each exhalation.
With each inhalation feel your body on the ground, with each exhalation let your body relax and rest. Loosen up more and more. Remain in that state of peace, enjoying your relaxation and holding your attention to the nostrils. After a few minutes, inhale deeply, exhale, turn your body to the left side, and then sit down slowly. Relaxation is over.
Practice this yogic relaxation technique 10 or 15 minutes, at sunrise and sunset, once or twice a day for several weeks and you will see all your tensions dissipate and your vitality will recover.
Namaste
